There are many things to do while in the tundra, some things people enjoy doing include hiking, viewing the wildlife and river floating.
Hiking: There are many things to remember while hiking in the tundra, for your safety and the safety of the biome.
While hiking, remember to keep a comfortable pace, not to fast and not to slow. if you walk too fast you'll miss some very interesting things, if you walk too slow you will not finish the trail in a sufficient time. If you happen to be walking in an area without a trail then a compass and map are absolutely necessary. If you are in a group, don't walk in a straight line, spread out a little so you don't create a trail. Use big rocks, and natural landformations in order to help you find your way. Try to avoid stepping on any tender flowers as they have taken so long to grow. Another thing to be aware of is the weather, and the fact that you need to be prepared for what surprises the tundra may bring. Bring warm clothing, blankets/sleeping bags, and strong tent(s) in the event of having to stay the night.
Viewing Wildlife: Things to remember while viewing wildlife is that you are invading their home, don't get too close and try not to disturb much of anything. If you find yourself wanting to view things closer, but boundaries are a barrier try using a pair of binoculars. Another good thing to remember is to move slowly and quietly to increase your chances of seeing an animal. DO NOT feed the animals, they are wild and human food has the possibility to cause digestive problems, there is plenty of food for the animals in their habitat.
River floating: Some importnt things to remember is to pick a river that is easily accessible and not too rough if you're a beginner. ALWAYS wear a life jacket, even if you think you'll be fine. It's better to be safe and not sorry. Don't float alone, you don't want to get lost. Try to avoid objects in the water, such as trees, shrubs, and unknown debris
.Skiing: While in the tundra you could go skiing if you find you want that to be a part of your vacation. You could kill two birds with one stone and go skiing on the famous Mount McKinley, and see the beauty of Alaska from the mountain top! Of course you will need to follow precautions and tips to have the absolute best skiing experience.
