Arctic Moss-
Found growing on the bottom of tundra lake beds and in around bogs and
ferns. It is very slow growing, 1 cm per year, and it lives a long time, 7-9
years.
Arctic Willow- It is 15- 20 cm in height. Dark brown or sparkling
pink, not fruit only seeds. They form a pesticide to keep insects
away.
Bearberry- It is a low growing evergreen, 2-8” off the ground.
Fruit is a red berry which is edible. Very plentiful. Tea made from leaves can
help with kidney or bladder problems.
Caribou Moss- Grows to 1- 4 inches high, stems are hollow. It is
actually a lichen. Can survive long periods of time without water. Very rich in
vitamins A and B. It can medicine for diarrhea
Diamond-leaf Willow- It has soft slender twigs that bend
easily, only grows a few inches high grows around the ground like a thick carpet. It
grows near creeks marshes or other wet areas. It is a good source of nutrients like
vitamin C and A and calcium. It also can
be used to make gunpowder.
Labrador Tea- It grows 4-5 feet high and blooms in June and July, it also is
very rich in nutrients. They grow in wet meadows, bogs, but are slightly poisonous. They can be used to
help all kinds of skin problems and stomach and nerve ailments, syrup can be
made from tea which will help with coughs
Pasque Flower- It grows 6-8 inches has a plum like fruit. It only
grows on southward slopes, and it is used to treat eye diseases
Tufted Saxifrage- It grows 3-15cm high and grows on rocky slopes and
crevices. Know as the "rock breaker".
